Emily & Nick {Staffordshire Engagement Photoshoot}

After a cold and icy drive to Hawkesyard Hall, I met up with Emily and Nick. They slowly made their way up to me; slipping and sliding up the hill! I am sure that set the scene for the rest of our photoshoot, as we spent time slowly sliding around the grounds of Hawkesyard Hall.

Nevertheless they both braved the ice and snow and no one fell over, which was actually quite the pleasant surprise! We managed to capture some lovely unique pictures. In that sense I think the snow helped. Emily and Nick were both fantastic to photograph. They seem very comfortable in front of the camera, and both had wonderful smiles throughout our time together.

Thank you very much to Emily & Nick for allowing me to take these pictures, and also for driving to meet me in the rough conditions! I'm very much looking forward to photographing their wedding later on this year as well, although part of me hopes we don't have to brave the same weather!

Asukabook ZenLay Flat

As an extra, you will be offered an Asukabook Zenlay Flat storybook. This is a contemporary take on the traditional wedding album.

The storybook will first be hand designed from scratch by myself. You will then have an opportunity to check over an electronic version to make sure that everything is exactly as you please. Once this is complete the storybook will go to order!

The books are produced by hand in Japan, under laboratory conditions. Just watch the video here!

Once production is complete the books are shipped into the country for inspection by the UK Asukabook team. Then finally they are shipped to me, for one more inspection. Your storybook will then be handed over to the rightful owner...you!

The storybooks come with a variety of options:

• Red or Black slide-in book case

• Gold or Silver hot stamped text on the book case

• Glossy or Matt page finish

I'm Missing Iceland!

Visiting Iceland was an absolutely incredible experience. From the people to the landscape. All incredible!

When first arriving we noticed how efficient & clean everything was (A nice change from typical UK). Within half an hour we had collected our luggage and had got ourselves our hire car and were on the way to Reykjavik! Driving is sometimes frustrating due to a rural limit of 90kmh (around 55mph). Once out on the open roads though, you don't want to be speeding along so you can take in the great views!

After a 40 minute drive from the airport, travelling through the lava plains, you reach Reykjavik. It's the smallest capital city in Europe, and due to this you can drive to the very centre within around 15 minutes. Which is of course very handy! Most big hotels are located around 5 minutes walk from the city centre as well.

I found the people in Reykjavik to be some of the most kind, approachable people I've ever met in a foreign country. Everyone speaks English (to an even better standard than I do!), with a very slight American accent. The majority of people also dress well, which is another nice change from the UK ;). Fashion seems to be big business in Iceland, and people seem to really take pride in their appearance. I think I could probably happily spend a week in Reykjavik alone, just bouncing from one coffee shop to another!

When heading out of the city you are greeted by an absolutely surreal landscape. Plains of cracked lava cover the lowlands. Miles and Miles of black dusk from recent volcanic eruptions scatter the landscape. And then of course there are mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, boiling mud pools, and more!

It's a very odd moment when you first see the sulphurous steam billowing out of the ground. There aren't many places in the world where you can see this! The below photo was taken out of a car window, and was the first of many geothermal power stations we saw. Getting up close to some of the geothermal areas you can see how they manage to make 60% of all their electricity from these places! An endless deafening flow of red hot steam jetting out of holes in the Earth. It's pretty epic! But a bit smelly unfortunately.

The waterfalls are of course one of the big tourist attractions for Iceland! The below picture is of Gullfoss, the biggest waterfall in all of Europe by volume. On average this waterfall has 140m³/s going over it. However the maximum amount ever recorded was 2000m³/s. I can't even imagine what that would look like, but I'm sure it would be pretty scary!

Heading south from Reykjavik you enter the Reykjanes peninsula, where the famous Blue Lagoon spa is. The roads weave & wind their way around cracked sheets of lava. It's a barren landscape due to being covered in volcanic rock. Not much grows apart from a few weeds at the sides of the road. The roads are also strangely empty. You can drive for half an hour without seeing another soul, which just adds to the eeriness.

A 380km drive outside of Reykjavik (around a 3rd of the Icelandic Ringroad) lies Jökulsárlón. It's a glacial lagoon, where bits of ice the size of houses drop off the end of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier (There's no way I could ever pronounce that!). The air temperature drops when you get near to the lagoon, and you can certainly feel it when you step out of the car and have the wind coming at you off the glacier. Many seals play around on the icebergs, which seem to enjoy the attention of tourists wandering around taking pictures.

The last photo is a picture of myself, stood at the corner of the Rekyjanes peninsula. That behind me is the Atlantic ocean, and if you were to head south from where I am standing, the first bit of land you would reach would be Cape Verde off the coast of Central Africa. You can certainly feel the power of the ocean. The water crashes dramatically along the coast line, creating some amazing cliff edges!

Stanage Edge

An incredibly cold & windy walk up Stanage Edge one afternoon. Annoyingly the sun decided to dip behind a massive cloud right at sunset, and decided not to return into view!

We still managed to get some pictures though. These have both been edited in the Beta version of Lightroom 4. If you are a photographer then I'd urge you to check it out! A wonderful bit of software for editing. They've made huge improvements since version 3, which will make it well worth the upgrade.

I hope to start taking a lot more landscape pictures again (seeing as it's how I started in the world of photography), although who knows whether I will find the time now that the wedding season has started to kick in again!

Vicky & John. Married! A Staffordshire Wedding

Vicky & John, married on the 10th September. It was a really great day to be a part of and I'm so glad they asked me to photograph it for them.

The day started, meeting John and the guests on Martin Street, Stafford. I love taking pictures on this street due to the fantastic looking council buildings on both sides (and the fact that I used to live there!). I managed to grab some great candid shots of the guests enjoying the weather before heading into the sweltering Stafford Registry Office.

After a few pictures outside of the Registry Office, and a bit of a chance to cool down, we all headed over to the fantastic reception venue, Brocton Hall Golf Club. Vicky & John travelled in a beautifully looked after VW Camper.

It was a day full of great moments, and great people. This included the "speech" from the best man, which was in fact a song performed on a ukelele!

After the speeches we took a few moments to take some relaxed pictures of just Vicky and John together. It's clear they are both so relaxed in each others company, and really enjoying their time together. It was a real pleasure being able to photograph this special day for them, and I wish them both the best for the future.

Project Moscow - Manchester Car Photo Shoot

My website developer and old friend, Chris Cheshire, recently got in touch about a project he is taking part in. Jon Woodward has spent the last few years re-building a 1977 Mini Pickup and the plan is now to take it on a 2 week tour around Western Europe, and to make a film about the adventure!

The original plan was to follow in the footsteps of the 1961 Mayor of Oxford, who drove to Moscow in a Mini Pickup on one (oversized 50 gallon) tank of fuel! They were due to set off 50 years to the day that the original Oxford - Moscow trip was started. However due to having a lot of problems trying to get Visas for Belarus and Russia, this plan was called off.

So...now the plan is to take a big tour around Western Europe with no real set route, and just to see what happens! I urge you to follow them on facebook as I'm sure this will be a really interesting project. Click here for more!

The trip up to Manchester was an early one, setting off from home at 8am (cheers Chris!). We then drove with Jon right into the centre of Manchester to a cool location he knew of, located in some arches underneath a railway line no more than 5 minutes from the city centre!

To any eagle eyed people out there, you may have noticed the lack of door handles! They are now opened by a button on the keys, or a button on the inside. And if you know your mini's (which admittedly I don't know that much!) you may note that the signature strip down the centre of the bonnet has been removed. This car is a gold mine of little modifications like that. The attention to detail that Jon has put in is simply amazing.

We got some fun pictures of the guys, including some great shots of Chris & Jon in ex soviet era jackets and an "Ushanka" each.

This custom grill was machined from one huge sheet of thick aluminium. A lot of time was spent making sure it was completely perfect.

Custom speaker housing within the custom dashboard! The door had to also be completely remodelled to accomodate the new hinges

The interior! A reasonable amount of leg room for a mini, although I'm sure it will be feeling very cramped after the 2 week trip!

I wish good luck to Chris & Jon. I'm sure they will have a great time exploring the continent. It would be great if you could give them some support, by following them on facebook. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of footage they get whilst on the trip.

Aimee and Luke, Married! Staffordshire Wedding Photography

The fantastic wedding of Aimee and Luke on Saturday 6th of August, 2011! The day started off with the bridal preparation, taking place in The Crown Hotel, located right in the centre of Stone, Staffordshire.

After taking some great shots of everyone getting ready, I headed over to the ceremony location; Holy Trinity Church, in Eccleshall.

We had plenty of relaxed photographs outside the church after the ceremony, then headed straight back to The Crown Hotel for the reception and celebrations! It was a beautifully sunny day so we managed to capture some wonderful pictures outside, right up until the first dance.

A great summers day to photograph such an exceptional wedding! All the best for the future, Aimee & Luke...

Laura & Ken, A Stafford Wedding

A sunny day in early July! We couldn't have asked for a better day.

I've known Laura & Ken for quite a while now, which made it even more of a pleasure to be asked to be the photographer at their wedding! It was a long day, starting at the hairdressers, & ending after the first dance, but such a fun day!

The ceremony took place at Littywood Manor, near Stafford. The reception was held at The Chase Golf Club, near Penkridge
